Ankarra: Part One

INT. LONDON CASINO, NIGHT.

The place is active, with beautiful people and lots of noise.

The CAMERA moves through the crowd until we come up behind a beautiful woman having a good time playing Baccarat.

A WAITER in a white jacket leans forward and whispers in the woman's ear.

WAITER:

Sorry to disturb you miss but I didn't catch your name when you came in.

REVERSE ANGLE

KATE MOSS at the side of the table blows out a huge cloud of smoke.

The WOMAN gives MOSS a hard look and

then turns to the WAITER, still with an edge to her voice.

KLUM: (Small cough)

Klum, Heidi Klum.

WAITER:

I thought that was your name miss, but I couldn't be sure.

You have a call.

He hands her a wireless phone.

KLUM removes an earring and puts the phone to her ear.

KLUM:

Hello?

PHONE:

Oh, Heidi, Roger here. I'm glad I was able to find you.

Look, I've just booked you for a marvelous job but you'll have to drop who ever you're doing and fly out right away.

KLUM:

Okay, Roger. I'll be there in a few.

She turns off the phone and hands it back to the WAITER.

SHE turns on a smile and pushes her chips towards the croupier.

KLUM:

Could you cash these in for me?

CROUPIER:

Of course Ms. Klum.

KLUM turns to the MAN (David Hedison) on her other side who has just looked up from his bet.

MAN:

What's wrong?

KLUM:

Work.

MAN:

Work?

KLUM:

Yes.

Roger just called and he's got a job for me.

MAN:

When?

KLUM:

I have to leave right now.

MAN:

Oh!!

SHE gives him a kiss.

KLUM:

I'll call you when I get back in town.

The MAN wants to argue but she doesn't give him a chance as she walks away.

KLUM walks through the Casino responding to a dozen greetings.

At the door a CLERK presents her with a check for her chips

a BUTLER holds her coat for her.

EXT. CLUB, NIGHT.

Klum steps outside just as her silver sports car comes to a stop.

She steps into the car and drives off.

EXT. LONDON STREET, NIGHT.

KLUM'S sports car moves quickly through traffic.

INT. SPORTS CAR. CONT.

KLUM presses a button on the dash.

A panel flips over and reveals a computer screen.

KLUM:

Mission profile.

COMPUTER:

Turkey, the Anatolian Peninsular.

This stretch of land is said to separate Europe from-

KLUM:

I can do without the geography lesson.

COMPUTER:

The present government-

EXT. STREET, NIGHT

KLUM takes a turn and heads for the Thames.

INT. PARKING GARAGE, NIGHT.

KLUM turns off the engine and then reaches under the passenger seat.

SHE pulls out a dark Gray Fedora and puts it on.

INT. OUTER OFFICE, N/A.

PENNY, a post middle aged woman is sitting at her desk when the hat flies through the room and hooks onto the coat rack.

PENNY gives a nervous jump.

She turns quickly and KLUM is face to face with her.

KLUM'S arms go around PENNY.

KLUM:

Penny, when are you going to stop playing this foolish game?

We both know the minister doesn't want to see me.

Why can't you just admit what you truly feel?

PENNY desperately reaches under the desk for the button.

When she pushes it the MINISTER'S outer door opens.

KLUM:

Oh, you minx.

I'll be back.

KLUM straightens up and walks through the doorway.

PENNY takes a few breaths to get herself under control but then smiles.

INT. MINISTER'S OFFICE, CONT.

CHRISTOPHER LEE looks up from his desk.

LEE:

Ah, Klum.

Good to see you.

What can you tell me about Ali Abbassad?

KLUM is truly puzzled.

KLUM:

I don't believe I know an Abbassad?

LEE:

Well, he seems to know you.

LEE tosses a folder across the desk.

Inside are modeling pictures of KLUM and love letters attached.

LEE:

The boy-

KLUM:

Boy?

LEE:

Yes, he's all of seventeen years old.

Anyway, he's a minor functionary in the Turkish foreign office and he appears to have quite a crush on you. So much of one that he's willing to give us their secret files on Islamic Militants in exchange for a chance to meet you.

KLUM:

Sounds like an obvious set up.

LEE:

Yes, it does.

But the information he has sent us so far is sound. And there might be a reason for that. As we understand it his Uncle, Rafile Abbassad, is a mid-level government official in Damascus with some connections to militant groups.

LEE pushes across another file.

LEE:

And if it is a set up then they're bating it with solid intel. And, ...

KLUM looks up.

LEE:

Well, it wouldn't be the first time a young man with over active hormones has fallen at your feet would it?

KLUM isn't sure how to answer that.

LEE:

It doesn't really matter either way.

The Americans, not to mention our own intelligence agencies, are quite eager to get there hands on what ever this boy might have.

KLUM:

And so, trap or not, they want me to meet with him?

LEE:

Exactly.

KLUM:

And what cover will I use?

LEE:

Well as he's fallen for a supermodel ...

KLUM: (Reluctance)

I see.

LEE:

You'll be off in the morning.

You can take that file with you to study if you like.

KLUM gives a small smile and turns to go.

LEE:

Oh and Klum?

Please leave my secretary alone.

KLUM shrugs and goes out.

INT. HALLWAY, LATER.

KLUM is walking down the hall (wearing her hat)

a MAN (Timothy Dalton) steps out of an office and wraps his arms around her.

He puts his nose in her hair and starts sniffing her.

TM:

Ah, you smell so good.

And you feel so ...

DALTON'S hands rub her body through her clothes.

KLUM flexes her left hand with it's long finger nails.

SHE plunges the finger nails into his eyes.

DALTON springs back.

KLUM gives a karate chop to his Adam's apple.

She kicks out and he goes down.

More people come out of the office, one clapping.

MAN 2:

Very, good Klum.

Thank you so much.

Now class, who can tell me what Mr. Dalton did wrong?

KLUM:

Glad to be of help.

WOMAN:

He never should have joined the service?

MAN 3:

He should have played it with a lighter touch?

WOMAN 2:

His name has too many syllables?

KLUM pushes open a door.

INT. WEAPONS DEPARTMENT, CONT.

KLUM walks quickly across to a small office.

KLUM:

Hello Burt.

I'm going into the field, do you have the new make-up case?

BURT:

Ah, yes.

Just have the latest one here.

HE pulls a make-up case from a rack, reads a number, writes the number on a clip board and turns the clipboard around for KLUM to sign.

She signs and then presses her thumb at the end of the line.

CU, the paper is embedded with electronic fibers.

KLUM takes the case.

KLUM:

Thank you.

KLUM turns and seems to be in a hurry to leave when,

QM: (O.S.)

Ah, Klum!

KLUM turns around and sees the QUARTERMASTER hailing her across the room.

She begins walking towards him, and he to her.

They meet at a rolling cabinet.

QM:

Just the person I wanted to see.

HE opens a drawer and pulls out a heavy steel case.

He opens it to reveal a tiny metallic string bikini consisting of three small triangles.

QM:

I just finished having the new one made up for you.

It has all of the usual refinements, including protection from radiation, infra red, ultraviolet ...

KLUM looks at the CAMERA.

INT. APARTMENT, NIGHT.

KLUM unlocks the door and comes in.

A MAN wraps his arms around KLUM from behind.

MAN:

I couldn't wait for you to get back.

KLUM locks her feet in his legs and they both go flying forward.

KLUM lands on HEDISON'S chest.

KLUM:

Who wants to wait?

SHE kisses him.

FADE TO

EXT. ANKARA AIRPORT, DAY.

The plane lands.

EXT. AIRPORT, DAY.

KLUM takes a look at the dreary city of ANKARA.

KLUM:

Why couldn't the little nerd live in Istanbul?

EXT. HOTEL, DAY.

KLUM gets out of her taxi as the bellman gets her bags.

INT. HOTEL ENTRANCE, DAY.

KLUM is crossing the entrance to the desk when a black MAN (ERIC) comes flying across the room.

ERIC:

Heidi! Heidi.

I'm so glad you're here. I've been here two days already and its been perfectly dreadful. What ever is going on? I got a call from Vogue Italy. They said to go to Turkey to shoot a fashion spread with Heidi.

I said, "Turkey?"

But then I said, "Heidi!"

Well, I'd go anywhere to shoot Heidi, but no one has told me anything.

I don't have a crew.

I don't have a make up person, or costumer.

I hope you know something.

KLUM:

I know a little more then you do, but not much.

Lets talk in my room.

INT. HOTEL, ROOM.

KLUM opens her briefcase from which she pulls sheets of official documents with Vogue Italy as the letterhead.

KLUM:

Now because it's a Muslim country we have to be careful not to draw attention to ourselves.

ERIC:

Then they never should have sent me. I could draw attention to myself in the middle of the Sahara desert.

(Thinks for a moment.)

ERIC:

By the way, where is the Sarah from here?

I've been saying that for years, maybe I could put it to the test?

EXT. PUBLIC SQUARE, DAY.

They are across the street from the TURKISH foreign office.

ERIC and KLUM are taking pictures in the square during lunch.

They have drawn quite a crowd.

They finish with the costume, no changes in public,

KLUM puts on a coat while

ERIC packs his stuff.

The people wander away except for one young man (ALI).

When ERIC and KLUM begin to leave the boy walks past KLUM and whispers to her while handing her a note.

ALI: (heavily accented English)

I must meet with you tonight.

KLUM does not look at the note or the boy.

INT. HOTEL ROOM, DAY.

KLUM unfolds the note, it has an address and a time, and also a phone number.

She dials the phone number.

PHONE: (In Arabic with English subtitles)

Hello, foreign office.

KLUM: (In Arabic)

Excuse me.

she hangs up.

INT. RESTAURANT, NIGHT.

(Outline) This restaurant is frequented by Europeans.

ALI meets her in the lobby and leads her to a table.

(Ali starts to talk to her in broken English but KLUM knows Arabic.

He is very excited to meet her.

She is very honored but the people who made the arrangements for her to come have things they want too.

He understands and will give her more information tomorrow.)

(The next day he passes more information to her by putting it with her things while she is modeling.

She sends the information to London and they send back a shopping list.

She communicates the shopping list to Ali.

He says some of the information will be difficult to get but he can manage it in a few weeks.

KLUM says she doesn't have a few weeks.

Her visa is for just one week and the government won't really want them to stay much past that.

ALI says that it will not be so difficult for him to get the information but it will be difficult for him to remove so much information from the Ministry.

KLUM arranges to shoot photos in the lobby in two days.

INT. LOBBY OF MINISTRY, DAY.

While KLUM and ERIC are shooting photos

ALI hides the folders in their stuff but

he is being watched by two GUARDS and some of the MEN who have come to watch the photo shoot.

KLUM waits until ALI has left before

SHE tells ERIC she is getting tired.

As they pack up their stuff the GUARDS and the MEN close in.

KLUM tells ERIC that they're in trouble.

THEY make a run for it, followed by ALI.

Ali manages to trip up the pursuers.

When KLUM sees ALI following them she wants to know why, they weren't chasing him.

ALI:

I love you Heidi. I must go home with you, back to America.

KLUM isn't pleased.

They are chased through town until

ERIC comes around a corner and spots two Mopeds.

He hops on one and shouts to KLUM.

KLUM jumps on the other.

ALI is insulted by the tiny bike.

KLUM is glad because that means she doesn't have to carry him.

They zip off and the pursuers close on ALI

He yells to KLUM that he's changed his mind.

SHE slows so he can get on.

The PURSUERS find a car and the chase continues.

BUT the Mopeds can make it through the crowd easier.

But they need to get to the airport or to hide.

ALI has a place. It belongs to a cousin.

They go there and it is a warehouse.

INT. WAREHOUSE, CONT.

They ride in and

ALI tells the men to close the doors.

The men gather around ALI to question him

ALI goes off with them.

KLUM recognizes two of the six men as being in the Secret Service files as Islamic Militants.

KLUM whispers to ERIC to be ready to leave.

KLUM calls to ALI in English [she is careful not to use Arabic in front of the other Arabs.].

ALI comes over looking very pleased with himself.

KLUM whispers to him that he doesn't know what he's gotten himself into.

ALI slaps KLUM back handed and

three of the men hold her down

the other three hold ERIC.

ALI begins a tirade, calling KLUM a slut and a whore, and a bunch of anti western stuff.

It seems that ALI set this whole thing up so he could kidnap a famous American so they can show the world how serious they are and get America to remove itself from the world. Etc., etc. [Don't worry if it doesn't make sense.]

Klum says that ERIC doesn't have any part of this

ALI agrees to let ERIC go.

One of the MEN walks ERIC to the door.

The MAN peaks outside to see that the coast is clear

then opens the door wider for ERIC to leave.

ERIC hates to leave KLUM

she insists.

ERIC has stepped through with one foot when

ALI shoots him from across the room in the back of the head.

ERIC falls just outside the door.

The man at the door kicks ERIC'S feet into the street

and locks the door behind him.

ALI and the men roll KLUM up into a rug.

KLUM manages to scratch ALI and one of the other men but gets kicked for her trouble.

Once the carpet is rolled up they tie it with twine

place it on the back of a truck and

make for Damascus.

KLUM is awake and taking note of her trip the best she can.

IN DAMASCUS

ALI and the truck go to his uncle's house.

They call Ali's Uncle at the capital and

he comes home.

ALI and ABBASSAD talk upstairs while

KLUM is left on the ground floor.

ABBASSAD is furious.

ALI thinks he has done something to impress his Uncle.

KLUM is famous.

She will be on the nightly news, and every magazine and newspaper cover.

They can't ignore them like they did when they captured that Pearl man, and they won't forget.

KLUM is a perfect example of decadent Americans.

ABBASSAD yells at ALI, she's not an American, she's German.

Ali doesn't know where Germany is.

ABBASSAD tries to explain that KLUM will bring too much attention to them, and will be particularly bad for Syria.

ALI doesn't care about Syria, he is fighting for a greater Islamic state. One free of American influences. [1600th century state].

ABBASSAD tries one last time.

He tells ALI that KLUM is not a reporter, or a politician or a tourist, she is a supermodel. And there are lots of men in America, with guns. Who hate their government and their neighbors and are just looking for a good reason to start shooting people, just like in Syria. And these men lust after Klum and they will come here to kill Ali and rescue Klum by the hundreds and thousands.

ALI still doesn't get it

ABBASSAD shoots him.

ALI was really stupid, that's why his uncle sent him to Ankara.
