INT.
HOTEL SUITE _ DAY.
The door opens, Rene and Eric enter the huge suite. The Bellman
brings in the trolley loaded with suitcases. He has trouble removing
two of Rene's and sets them in the middle of the room. Eric tips
him and the Bellman leaves. Rene is on the balcony.
|
RENE
This is incredible.
ERIC
Yeah.
|
Eric has trouble lifting Rene's two biggest suitcases.
|
ERIC
I think you over packed.
RENE
I'm not planning to wear any of that. I just grought
it so Jenny couldn't get into them. They're my work clothes.
|
Rene enters from the balcony completely naked.
|
ERIC
I thought these were your work clothes.
|
Rene backs Eric up to the bed, kissing him and removing his clothes
all the while. Once he's down on the bed she stops.
|
RENE
Thank you.
ERIC
For what?
RENE
I hope you never find out.
|
|

|
|
EXT. BEACH - DAY.
CU
A black "full back" bikini covers a curved ass.
A man's hand slips under the bikini and caresses the ass
and then pinches it.
|
 |
|
RENE
Ow!
|
WIDE
Eric and Rene are standing on a secluded white sand beach with
only a few adults around enjoying the beach and each other. Rene
and Eric are kissing, both wearing swimsuits, while he palms her
ass and pinches her again.
|
RENE
Hey!
RICHARD
(O.S.)
Its a great ass isn't it? I know I could never keep my
hands off ot it.
|
Rene and Eric jump back. Richard is sitting on a lounge chair,
deep in the trees and shade, sipping a drink out of a coconut.
|
ERIC
What? Come on Tracy, I think we need to find another
beach.
RICHARD
Buzz off sonny, she's my wife.
|
Richard comes to his feet. Rene is staring at him slack jawed.
Eric steps between them.
|
ERIC
The lady's with me.
|
Richard is close and he pinches Eric's triceps muscle.
|
RICHARD
Not bad, but I fight dirty.
ERIC
I don't want a fight-
RENE
He does. He's my husband Eric and he wants to provoke
you into a fight.
ERIC
Your, husband? Richard? He took off and left you.
RICHARD
Tracy! It seems you've been sharing a little too much.
RENE
What do you want Richard?
RICHARD
I'm entitled to half, but I'll take everything. Does
rich boy know he doesn't have to act like a gentleman.
That-
ERIC
Security!?
RICHARD
... all he has to do is show you the green stuff to get
you to spread your legs.
|
Eric turns back to Richard and almost punches him when Rene takes
his arm.
|
RENE
Its okay, Chet. I'm not ashamed of what I do. Its what
my marriage was based on after all.
RICHARD
Nice try but there's no hear to hit. And while you and
"Chet" might not care you you pay for your lifestyle,
the Bahamanian government does.
|
A Security Officer shows up. Eric shows the Officer his room
card and then points at Richard.
|
ERIC
This man, hid in wait for us and now he's accusing my
wife of obscenities and is trying to provoke a fight.
I don't know what his scam is and I don't want to know.
We just want to enjoy what we thought would be a pleasant
holiday.
SECURITY
Of Course sir.
|
Eric tugs on Rene's hand and she eventually follows. Richard
tries to follow but the Security Officer restrains him.
|
RICHARD
Clever Rich Boy, but she's still my wife. And that makes
her my property.
|
The Security Officer talks on his radio while restraining Richard.
|

|
|

|
EXT. POOLS AREA - DAY.
Eric and Rene walk hand in hand and with a purpose towards the
lobby.
|

|
|

|
INT.
LOBBY - CASTAWAYS - DAY
Eric and Rene walk hand in hand through the lobby towards the
elevators (Eric has an erection and Rene's nipples are hard).
|

|
|

|
INT. SUITE, DAY.
The door to the suite opens, Rene and Eric enter. The moment
the door closes Rene's facade falls away. Eric takes her in his
arms, kisses her and lifts her off the ground.
He lowers her onto his erection and just holds her there while
he kisses her. Finally they break.
|
ERIC
I should call security.
RENE
I'm all wet. You should fuck me first.
|
Eric kisses her again and carries her to the bed.
|

|
|

|
|
EXT. STREET NASSAU - NIGHT.
Rene and Eric are walking slowly, enjoying the air and
the look for a place to eat.
|
RICHARD
(O.S.)
Hey Chet, Tracy!
|
|
 |
Richard is sitting outdoors at a bar with a drink in his hand.
Eric and Rene move on, faster.
|
RICHARD
(Laughs)
ERIC
I really should call the police, he's stalking us.
RENE
I don't know. I think he's right about the legal stuff.
Which means I don't want to attract legal attention.
ERIC
He's right about prostitution, I checked.
|
Eric checks her expression. The subject doesn't seem to upset
her.
|
ERIC
Its illegal here even though you see it every where.
But I haven't paid you, here so ... We're just friends
as far as the locals know.
RENE
And federal felons back in the states. I don't think
that's a good thing.
|
They walk in SILENCE for a while, not noticing the beauty they
are passing. Eric puts his arm around Rene to comfort her. She
responds by leaning into him.
|
ERIC
My great grandfather and my grandfather used to do a
lot of business in the Bahamas.
RENE
What do you mean?
ERIC
Triangle trade. Slaves for sugar, sugar for rum, rum
for slaves. They replaced the slaves with other things
after the war but the trade didn't stop. I'm thinking,
if we spread my name around we might find someone willing
to help us change Richard's mind.
RENE
And get us into more legal trouble?
ERIC
We're not in the U.S.
|
|

|
 |
|
EXT. NASSAU STREET - DAY.
This is not the best street in town.
There's a rum distributors company on the street.
|
 |
|
 |
|

|
INT. RUM EXPORTER - DAY.
Eric and Rene are in the back office of a Bahaman native.
|
NATIVE
This will not be a problem. It would be even easier to
kill him.
RENE
No, that would cause ... family problems.
NATIVE
So, it will be done.
|
Rene opens her purse.
|
RENE
How much do I owe you for this?
NATIVE
Oh, nothing. We do this because of family and in hopes
of future business.
RENE
I appreciate that but this is not Eric's problem, it
is mine. I asked him, as a friend, to put me in touch
with persons who would take this kind of work but, he
can't vouch for me. I wish to take care of this, in cash,
now. With no long term obligations.
|
This dissappoints the Businessman.
|
RENE
That is not to say that if this is done well I won't
have work of a similar nature in the future. But it makes
no assurances either.
NATIVE
(beat)
You understand that I agreed to this under different
assumptions?
RENE
Of course. You don't know me and have no reason to believe
I require more than the basics. But I insist upon the
best and I'm willing to pay for it.
NATIVE
You want ... professionals.
RENE
I expect them.
|
They look at each other, two business people.
|

|
|

|
|
EXT. BALCONY - EVENING.
Rene and Eric are sitting in a hot tub. naked, on the balcony
of their suite and looking out as the lights come on around
the resort. Eric captures Rene's foot and begins to rub
it.
|
 |
|
RENE
Mmmm. You know, you could have a career in this business.
|
Eric smiles.
|
RENE
What are you thinking of doing, not to me, but in your
life?
ERIC
I don't know.
RENE
What do you feel like?
ERIC
I want to do something to make up for the stuff my family
has done over the years. I don't care about the money.
I even like the idea of their money going to repair or
undue what they've done.
RENE
Like the Southern Law Center of something?
ERIC
Yeah.
|
DOORBELL
|
ERIC
I've been thinking something legal.
(yells)
Come in. I think what you're husband has done is awful
and there should be some legal way to hurt him and not
hurt you.
|
A waiter comes out onto the balcony with a cart. On the cart
is a fancy serving for rum. Under the cart is a wooden box.
|
ERIC
What's this?
WAITER
Its for the lady.
|
The waiter lifts out the wooden box and opens it. Inside are
two bottles of local rum, recent vintage, nestled in shredded
wood.
|
RENE
Expensive?
WAITER
Very, I was told. Would you like me to prepare two glasses?
RENE
Yes, please.
|
The Waiter goes through a complex process, hands over the glasses
and leaves. Eric lifts a bottle and examines the label. Rene sips
the rum and makes a face.
|
ERIC
I think I saw this in the store for like a dollar fifty.
RENE
Well, I guess I'm pretty gullible because I think I paid
thousands for these two bottles.
|
Eric puts the bottle back and reaches for his glass.
|
RENE
I wouldn't.
|
Eric smiles. Rene is quiet.
|
ERIC
What are you thinking?
RENE
I'm thinking that Richard knows a lot about my financials.
And that my accountant doesn't know where I am or how
to find out.
ERIC
Maybe April told him.
RENE
You're giving April twenty five hundred dollars, and
all she had to do was take one call. I don't think Richard
has enough money to make it worth April's while to give
me up.
|
Rene sits up and then she slides around the tub, sitting next
to Eric and slips her hand between his legs.
|
ERIC
What's this about?
RENE
This is about, that you aren't paying for me to have
personal problems. Isn't that one of the rules?
ERIC
Number five.
|
They kiss.
|

|
|

|
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY.
Richard is in the bed, bandaged from head to toe. Rene comes
in. We can see through the door before it closes that Eric is
waiting in the hall.
|
RENE
Oh, Richard. Hotel security just told us what happened?
They said at first they thought you were garbage the
ocean had thrown up on the beach. Oh, it must have hurt
so much. I can't imagine how much it must hurt, to be
alone, with no one to help you.
|
Richard is pleased at first and then turns suspicious
|
RENE
If your enemies can find you all the way out here, is
it even safe for you to go back to the U.S.?
|
And one
more thing.
|

|
|

|
INT. KUMAR'S OFFICE - DAY.
Rene sits across the desk from Kumar staring at him. Kumar is
nervous.
|
KUMAR
Uh, Rene, are you all right?
RENE
Yes, why wouldn't I be?
KUMAR
I don't know but you asked for this meeting but you've
just been staring at me.
RENE
Isn't that my right? I am paying you aren't I?
KUMAR
Uh, yes.
RENE
But that doesn't really mean much does it?
KUMAR
It means a great deal. It means-
RENE
If it means so much, then why did you inform Richard
of everything?
KUMAR
I-
|
Rene pulls two envelopes from her purse. She places the first
one on Kumar's desk, in front of him.
|
RENE
That's my legal notice to you that I have retained a
new accountant and that you are required to turn over
all files you have on my finances, immediately.
KUMAR
Rene-
|
Rene places the second envelope on Kumar's desk.
|
RENE
That is a copy of the complaint I've filed with the state
board of accountancy. I hired a lawyer to help me with
it. She feels certain you'll loose your license.
|
Rene stands up and leaves.
|

|
|

|
INT. CPA OFFICE RECEPTION - DAY.
Kumar follows Rene, looking desperate.
|
KUMAR
Rene! You can't-
|
Janice stands up and faces Kumar like she was waiting for this
scene.
|
JANICE
We already have. Don't make it worse than it already
is, Kumar.
|
Janice and Rene give Kumar a smile before they leave.
|

|
|

|
INT. TITLE OFFICE - DAY.
The Manager is sitting at his desk under the company sign opening
his mail. He opens a letter from Janice and reads about Richard
taking refuge in the Bahamas. The Manager smiles and nods his
head.
|

|
|

|
EXT. COLLEGE - DAY.
Jenny comes out of a building and walks along a path where she
finds Rene waiting.
|
JENNY
Mom!
RENE
Your father has your cell number and you have mine. From
that, I figured he located where my cell was.
|
Jenny doesn't know what to say.
|
RENE
You're my daughter, nothing can change that. That means
you always have an ear to listen to your problems and
your successes. And that you always have a place to go
when you have no where else. But it doesn't mean I'll
ever trust you again.
|
Jenny is devastated. Rene turns on her heal and leaves. She walks
across the campus, a woman on her own.
|
